Our mission is to empower and enrich the lives of individuals who are 55 and older, who are members of one of our four synagogues, by creating meaningful connections with others in our Shalom Synagogue Village. We provide new opportunities for social engagement that promote physical and emotional well-being and foster a renewed sense of Jewish community.
Here’s an update on our ongoing and upcoming programs from your Shalom Synagogue Village, especially for our synagogue members age 55 and above.
NEW - SAVE THE DATE FOR OUR FIRST IN-PERSON GET-TOGETHER…FIRST SIPS OF SUMMER, A SHALOM SYNAGOGUE VILLAGE SCHMOOZE – Thursday, June 8 th from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at The Community Synagogue
– Join us for cocktails and light bites and meet members of our four participating synagogues.

NEW - IDEAS FESTIVUS: AN IDEAS FESTIVAL FOR THE REST OF US – Thursday, March 30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Reconstructionist Synagogue of the North Shore - This program will meet periodically to consider fresh ideas being addressed in the media. NEW – GROWN UP FUN – Sunday, April 2, 2 – 4 p.m. – The Community Synagogue Theatre Company presents “Rumours” by Neil Simon at Club G, Castle Gould at The Sands Point Preserve followed by dinner at Sullivan’s Quay at 4:30 p.m. Tickets for the show are $35 per person. You must purchase your tickets for the show here: Theater Company - The Community Synagogue (commsyn.org). NEW - A Conversation with Rabbi Lee Friedlander of RSNS, “Jewish Identity and Surrogacy: The
Workings of the Rabbinic Mind” - Wednesday, April 26, 10 a.m. at the Reconstructionist Synagogue
of the North Shore
Join us for a casual conversation and coffee. This program initiates an occasional series of opportunities to meet and chat with clergy in a casual setting offered only by the Villages program. Rabbi Lee Friedlander’s chosen topic will be related to some “hot button” cases in Israel, where rabbinic courts have ruled that babies through surrogacy might not be recognized as Jewish. After his presentation, we will have a chance to talk further about this subject and many others. ROUNDS SINGING – Thursdays, April 13 and 27 – 7:30 p.m. at the Reconstructionist Synagogue of the North Shore Rounds singing is a fun group activity that is sure to lighten your winter mood. No level of music ability is required, just the desire to belt out some tunes. We will provide some of our favorite rounds but encourage you to bring some as well. Please join the Shalom Villages group to raise the roof and have some fun.
